Having worked with domains now for well over a year, I’ve realized that I actually should try finding a domain that better suits me as a mail address domain. Right now my domain is a bit hard for people to get when I write it down on paper.

I have a few options:

- I could try buying up the .no/.com domain I want from another owner, but the downside would be that I might have to end up paying allot of money for it.

- I could get an obscure ccTLD (Country code Top-Level domain), but the problem then is, normal people don’t know about that many extensions. The main extensions are .com/.net/.org and for Norwegians it’s .no. Having an extension like .sh, .tc, .cx or .la as an extension would just confuse people.

- Another option is to simply sit and wait for a domain to “maybe” expire and steal it before it’s re-registered by the owner, but this involves allot of waiting, and domains these days usually don’t expire unless the owner does not pay for it.

I might just ending up with the second solution. It’s not the best, but I don’t want to pay allot of money, and I can’t be bothered waiting for the domain I want to be released. I am monitoring the domains, and will no doubt snatch it if it does release, but I can always forward mail to another domain when I get it.

If you have any suggestions to what domain I should try to go for, please don’t hesitate to drop me a note!

After I moved to Stockholm, I have had to travel for quite a long distance to get to work. In Trondheim it only took me about 15-20 minutes to get to work. Here it takes me 55 minutes, and I have to change from bus to underground along the way.

With all this time, and not much to do then to sit and wait to get from A to B, I had to find something that helped time go by faster, so I decided it was time to start reading books again.
I remember when I was working at Ringnes E.C. Dahls Bryggeri A/S, I used to listen to audio books a lot, and I really miss that, so after searching around a bit I found an application for my iPhone that suited my needs called Stanza. Seeing as I have my hands free at the bus and train, I figured I could save storage space and time by reading eBooks instead of audio books, and for this Stanza is perfect.

So far I h ave managed to get through some books already, so here’s a short review of what I think about them:

Dan Brown – The Lost Symbol

No doubt a very intriguing book, and reading it made time just fly by in seconds, but during the entire book, one thing kept bothering me. Dan Brown is mocking every conspiracy theorist that disagrees with what he means is correct, through his character Robert Langdon. Why does he do that? Sure, he might disagree with them, but to openly mock people thinking that the Freemasons where something more then just a society of great men really bothers me. In example, there are people that believe Freemasons where satanic worshippers, and they are in their liberty to believe that. Not to be told that they are stupid to think like this by a character in a book.
The story itself was very good though, very typical Dan Brown-esque, with crime, action, mysteries and a touch of romance. Just the way we like it.

The graveyard book

I have been wanting to read this book ever since it came out, and Alina have the book, but I usually never get around to picking up a book when I get home, and I hate lugging books around with me when I’m out, so getting this book as an eBook right away was kind of predestined. The book is classified as a children’s book, but it should really be classified as “for all ages”, because this book is just as entertaining and fun for an adult as a child.

That’s the books I have been reading so far, and right now I’m currently reading this book:

World of Warcraft: Arthas: Rise of the Lich King

I have really not read much of this yet, but the first chapter seems promising. I have a feeling that I’m going to read through this book in no time, as I love the Warcraft lore.

Also on my list of books-to-read are these (in no particular order):

Stephen King – The stand
Neil Gaiman – Anansi boys
Max Brooks – World war Z
Mel Odom – Hellgate London
Terry Brooks – The Landover series
Robert Jordan – Wheel of time series
Grahame-Smith Seth – Pride and Prejudice and zombies
Yann Martel – Life of Pi
Terry Pratchett – The colour of magic
Brent Weeks – The way of shadows
Orson Scott Card – Enders game

There are more as well, but these should keep me busy for quite a lot of work days.

Things have actually started happening for once! Here’s the latest news:

We are heading over to Stockholm this Friday. There we will be looking at apartments that we have arranged meetings with.

Stockholm HQ will be paying for our hotel room for the weekend.

We have made an advert announcing that we are looking for an apartment and t hat we are going to Stockholm this weekend here, there has been some response, but nothing interesting yet. One was too expensive (8300,-) and the other sent us a link to an advert that wasn’t correct. Seems the person had pasted the wrong link or something.

Hopefully by the end of this week we will have an apartment to move into. We are also going to be working on getting a deal with a company to move our things to Stockholm. This will probably also be covered by my company.

It also seems that we are having progress with our current apartment. The landlord have had several people over to look at the apartment, and we have about 3 people interested. He will be showing more people the apartment this Friday, which means there will be someone taking over the apartment when we move. We had some problems with the landlord regarding this, but it’s been sorted out.. We’ll see how that goes.

Next week will probably consist of packing up everything, getting rid of trash we won’t need (so if someone will be able to drive us around and get rid of some junk, please let us know!) and arranging for pick-up/drop off. If everything goes according to plan, we will be living in Stockholm from 01.09.2009!

Lately my blog posts have been rather impersonal. This being partially because I have so much else I’d like to blog about, but also because I’ve not had time to really sit down and write something serious.

That’s why I thought this post could contain a bit of information on how we are doing with the whole moving to Sweden thing.

“I wish I had some more information” I’ve been saying this over and over to myself (and others) for the last couple of months. People keep asking if I know anything more about the moving, and my reply has been “Only that we are moving in the end of August“.

However this time I know a bit more! Yesterday I received a mail from one of the people in charge of human resources at our Swedish office, asking what kind of apartment we would like. If we wanted with 2 rooms or more, how much rent we would be able to pay, and what kind of job Alina might be interested in. I hastily replied that we would love at least a 2 room apartment, with 6500,- NOK as max rent, and Alina would prefer NOT to work with cleaning, children or old people. Other then that she would be cool with more or less anything.

We are yet to receive a reply on this, but I was told they are two people working on finding us an apartment, which means we should be receiving a mail soon about the details. I’m quite excited to see what they find and if we will be able to see photos of it. What would be even better, would if someone from our office in Stockholm would be able to check the place out, and OK it for us.

As for moving our things from Trondheim. We have been informed that they will pay for a moving company to drive all our things to Stockholm. How we will get there, I’m not sure of yet, but I’m guessing it’s by plane, sponsored by the office. If not, we’ll just find some way to get there, all tough plane would probably be the best option.

What’s even cooler, is that our company have started a separate department just for our 1.line support, and it will be located in Överkalix in Northern Sweden, this means I will probably not be taking any more phone calls from old ladies wanting help with their E-Mails accounts anymore. Currently there are 7 new people starting with full 1.line support there, while us in the Stockholm office will be focusing on 2/3.line registry and technical issues. Just the way It’s supposed to be.

As we get close to moving, I can’t stop from feeling a bit sad about it. Moving away from all the people I’ve come to know and love in Trondheim. I have been living here for roughly 6 years now, and gotten to know some amazing people. I’ve grown to love this city and how relaxed and pretty it is, I’ve found a job I enjoy doing and a girl that I would gladly spend the rest of my life with.

Hopefully I might move back some day, and settle here, but for now, I am willing to move where ever I am needed, In order to improve my career. Seeing as my education is rather slim, I need all the experience I can get. Even if it means moving from loved ones.

Seeing as it’s hot as hell on a Sunday in our office, and I’m not at all motivated to get any work done, I went out on the mighty Interwebs to look for old tracks of myself. Turns out my old livejournal site was still up and running! Sure I didn’t use it that much, so there wasn’t really that many posts on it, but it was fun non the less. This blog I apparently registered in 2003-12-25 09:13:49 with the livejournal ID of (#1688696), it was last updated 2004-07-15.

Here are some of the posts re-posted for your entertainment (and because I am going to deleted the content entierly in due time. For now it’s just hidden).

I tillegg! End of day!

It’s about 02:36 now, and i’m bored. I’ve been sitting here since 12:30 (That’s when i stood up), and doing nothing. I’ve been on irc the entire day and had a quick trip to the supermarket for some food. After that i made a pizza and watched Jackie Chan – Police story. Nice movie actually. Did you know that, that movie was the movie Jackie Chan sustained most injuries? Because of the playing with glass and all. Pretty scary. After that, i’m back on irc. Trying to find something to do. I’m planning on working on my website or going to sleep. Who knows what time will bring. *ranting*. I’ve also come to like Zeromancer. They’re what’s left of Seigmen. I remember i loved that group so much! Now they’re gone. And only memories left. I still love their songs thoug, and play them all the time. Wish they would continue, but hey, it can’t all last forever.

music | UnreaL ][ / PM

Yep, it's the first day of the new year and i'm sick. Too much to drink last nigth i guess. I was with some friends and we had a big new years party. Sendt up a bunch of expensive rockets and drank a lot of beer, shots and drinks. After a while i got so drunk that, according to my friends, they had to carry me up to bed. Kind of sucks really. I don't like not remembering what i did. Last thing i remember was talking on the phone then it all became dark and i had no more memory. Well, i woke up the next day with an big headace, pain in my stomach and in general, pain all over. Luckily Tom had to go to work, so i hitched a ride home with him. Now i'm sitting home, not so much headace and stomach pain anymore, but i still need a shower and some fresh clothes.

Okay, the day today was’nt too bad. I went to work at 9′o clock. Worked until 17′o clock. After that i made an agreement with Tom that we’d go training afterwards. I then went, bought two hot dogs and walked home (yes, i know it’s stupid buying hot dogs before training, but i was hungry). When i came home i went straight for my laptop (as usual) and started downloading some network apps i’ve found later the day at work. After about 3-4 hours Tom arrived and we went straight for trainging at Elixia. After about 1 hour of training i was pooped and coulnd’nt take another step. We then went for a shower. And boy, was that water cold. For some reason they didn’t have enough warm water. So i showered, in cold water >_<; Damn, that hurts. Anyhow, after a few minutes we dressed up and went to Hercules for some food. Of course, it was closed. Then we figured out that they are open at Kiwi until 23:00. We went there and i bought a pack of burgers and a Mia pizza (my favoritte ^^). We then went our seperate ways. When i came home i, again, sat down at my computer. Discussed Linux for a while with a person and, now i’m frying burgers and trying to find out what movie to watch. Any suggestions? The night is still young and i’ll be starting work 16:00 tomorrow. So long sleep before work :D See ya!

music | Kai Tracid – Too Many Times (Warmdusher Mix)

Okay, today i’ve been really up and down. It’s been a long time since i’ve had to post here, but here goes. I woke up at about 08:30 and was about to go to work, when i figured out my head was about to explode. I had a really hard headace and i couldn’t get it to stop. So i went back to bed and slept until about 09:30. I was supposed to go to work at 10, but i figured out that my head was in so much pain, that i had to take the day off. I called work and told them i was sick. Then i went straight to my laptop and read mail etc. as usual. I still had a headace, but hey, i love my computer. When it was about 13:00 i figured i should get som breakfast. I made the regular bread and jam, then took a warm shower. I figured it was time to do something, so i got in contact with Stian that asked if i were to meet him in town. So i did and we just walked around, trying to find some 1-day hair dye for Stian :p Anyway, later i went up to Christian, another friend of mine and we had a LAN. I of course had my laptop with me, and we traded some stuff. Later i was planning on going to Porsgrunn for another LAN. On the bus to Porsgrunn i figured out i was really hungry, but i didn’t care. I then hooked me up to the nettwork at my old school and copied some stuff Pål had asked me to get for him. By then i was really tired, hungry and had yet another headace (wich had left when i took a shower earlier) Then i waited for about 20min for the god damn buss, before i finally got home. Now i’m at my kitchen floor, eating noodles with meatballs and ranting in this rant.

Title: No more updates

j0
I will stop updating my livejournal from now on(not that i ever updated it that much), and do all my blogging on my own homepage, that’s on http://penpen.evangelion.nu if anyone missed it ;)

I’ll still comment on friends posts, so don’t worry about that. I’m not as good as i should be at commenting, but i’ll get there =)

hm, maybe i’ll update on livejournal if it’s REALLY important and something i only want to share with close friends.

Seems I wasn’t very good with line breaks back then, and to some extend I still fail at that part, but at least I had the occasional nerdy post ;)

Right now I`m on a restaurant in the middle of Oslo, writing this on my new HTC touch diamond which i bought from Silje. worth every krone in my opinion.
So, I went down here with Kenneth (from work), to attend a seminar on .no domain registration. All went well, all tough we had some difficulties finding our way, but the phone with gps saved the day. We received some sweet free stuff (t-shirt, pins etc.) and even an amazing lunch buffet. The seminar itself had its ups and downs, as some of the speakers were extremely boring, but all in all, we learned allot on what kind of plans they had further on.
Today, I`m planning on doing some shopping, and later on, Pål is having a party. Should be fun.
I`ll see if I can do some updates later, as this blog has really been neglected recently…

It has been quite a while since I wrote something now. Mostly because I simply haven’t had the time, being busy with other stuff, and when I have had the time, I’ve not really been in the blogging mood. So, without further a due, here’s a round-up of what’s been happening the past week:

DVD shelf

So Alina and I finally managed to get our shelves up for the DVDs. We had been planning on getting them up for quite a long time, and we used just as much time having the planks stand in the hallway, waiting to be cut, painted and set up. Finally we got around to do it, and it turned out really well!
Out drinking with my co-workers

So on Friday (25/07) my work was having a party for Vidar (one of my co-workers) seeing as he was leaving us for a new job. We were going to start having a couple of beers and play Wii at work, then head for Solsiden to Peppes for pizza and more beer. When it was around 4 we started with the beers, but I had promised Alina I would get us a Wii that day, seeing as I received my paycheck, so I went to town and met her, we bought ourselves a Wii at Mamoz, and then we went back home. I changed some clothes, fixed myself up a bit, and went back to work.

By then of course most of the guys have had a couple of beers and was preparing to go, so we head onwards to Solsiden. We came to Peppes, got a nice table and more people joined shortly after. We were about 10 people when the pizzas and beer came, and boy there was a lot of beer after a while… When the company is paying for the beer, people tend to go little overboard, so I think we all had about 2 beers each at all times.

After having about 3-4 beers (or more?) at Peppes, we decided we should head out on town. We went to Bar Circus, where we got our own private lounge and more beer. Also, after a while I started on JD&Coke, which they decided I needed more of, so at several times I had two of them as well.

By this time It starts getting blurry, I remember having allot of drinks on circus, and I have been told later on that we went to Down Town, all tough I really can’t remember that. I can however remember being at the bar in Down Town with the previous boss for Crystone, and this is the last thing I remember him saying “I’m going to drink you under the table! Give us 8 drinks!”….. After that, everything went black and I woke up on the sofa in our apartment the next day.

Turns out I had managed to get Alina to come pick me up (which was by my part I think quite a good idea), which she did. Safe to say she was not pleased the next day, having to drag my drunk ass through town wasn’t exactly that much fun.

Safe to say, I will never drink that much again, or at least not with my colleagues, just with Alina and friends.

And yeah, I actually managed to forget my bag at Down Town, and had a couple of days where I was really scared that it might have been stolen, because none of my co-workers did remember seeing it either.

Wii and fit

This week we got ourselves a Wii Fit for our Wii, seeing as Alina really wants to get in a bit better shape (and I should probably work a bit on my physique as well). I tried it out after coming back from work, and I must say, it really tires you out! At first I was really doubting if anything like that could even work, but turns out you are doing some really heavy exercise.

Well, silly as I am, I might have just overdone it, because after playing for about 35 minutes, I felt really tired. And the same night, I had a seriously bad fever which stuck with me all night and the next day. Might have been that my body wasn’t prepared for such exercise, so it just decided to shut down instead of dealing with it. Good job body… Thankfully I feel much better now, so I will no doubt be trying the Wii fit again soon. Just have to remember to warm up a bit before I go at it.

By the way, If anyone want to trade the Wii key things, let us know! We’d love to link up with you guys :)
The rest of this week will be consisting of Alina and me celebrating our 1 year anniversary! I can’t believe it’s already been a whole year, but time flies when you’re having a good time :) We will no doubt be having a nice dinner, maybe a movie, and generally just spend the day together.

So last weekend Alina and Me went to Levanger to go camping outside and visit Alinas parents. We managed to sleep over from Friday to Saturday (after being bitten half to death by insects), and spent the rest of the weekends at Alinas parents, eating and celebrating Alinas birthday.

During our stay outdoors, I managed to capture this beautiful picture. It’s the field outside HINT, close to the water.

And I’ve started to realize how much I enjoy working at Crystone A/S. I mean sure, having the support phone a whole week, having to be available 24hours a day, 7 days a week sucks, but it doesn’t really matter. I get payed well, I have some great colleagues, and an awesome boss! Today we had strawberries with sugar and cream, and when we move to our new offices, we’ll be having Wii and flat-screen :D

Also, the work environment is really relaxed. I mean, we do work quite efficiently, but still take time to kid around . This being an all-male workplace turns it into a kind of mini-LAN every day, which is pretty cool. Also, the guys are really hardcore geeks, so I finally have someone to talk really geeky stuff with and actually get an interested reply. The rest of the week will probably be spent getting our new shelves up for our dvds and relaxing. Alina will be working most of the weekend, but hopefully we’ll be able to get some people for a little party on Saturday.

God I’m tired…. Trying desperately to keep myself alive and kicking by throwing down large amounts of coffee, but right now it’s not doing much. I’ve got way too little sleep the past couple of days, so I feel kind of worn, but hopefully I’ll manage to get to bed at a decent hour tonight.

Today I’ll probably be working overtime, which means I’ll be staying at work all day today. Luckily we won’t be taking any phone calls after 4 o’clock. It seems we’re going to be transferring tons of domains from one server to another, and eat pizza, so I’m looking forward to it really :)

Alina and I have been looking for a sofa lately, seeing as I’ve managed to get my hand on quite a good load of cash, but finding a sofa we like wasn’t as easy as we first thought. What we want, is a sofa with 2 seats, one of them being those long seats where you can lie down, so it turns into a sort of a mini-corner sofa. So far only one we’ve managed to find cost 8000,- which is a bit too steep for our taste. The other one cost 11 000,- which is totally unreasonable. If anyone got any suggestions to where we could find ourself the sofa of our dreams, leave me a note will ya?

EDIT 20:30: It wasn’t as fun as I hoped for…. Sure, I got pizza and soda, and got to send a bunch of old classic trance tunes to your resident DJ for playing, but I’m so tired now I can barely look straight…. Gladly we’re more or less done soon.

It’s closing in on the last minutes before I’m done with the first week at my new job. I’ve learned allot of new stuff, like how to register new domains, update existing domains and transfer old ones in the Norid system. I’ve also finally gotten a better look at how our mail system works, so I can actually sort it and have it the way it’s supposed to be.

There has been allot of stuff happening today though, but I’ve not been a part of it, seeing as I mostly do the paper pushing, and don’t take any phones, but to sum it all up:

Several servers had problems with the mail service, which made mail have up to 6 hours delay.

More servers had load of up to 10 (which is quite allot on Linux servers) which made several pages cease to work.

Hackers had managed to intercept some SSH keys and compromised one (or more of our servers) and installed a rootkit.

All of this was fixed by the end of the day though, so no harm done. Our Polish server admin set new root passwords and we took down the source of the problem, an internal server at work that had been hijacked and drained for passwords.

Now I’m going to meet up with some friends in town, shopping and probably grab a coffee :)
