Seeing as I’m slightly lazy, I wanted to find a way to automatically download all TV-Series and movies, without any human interaction.

After searching around a bit, I stumbled upon a python script called Flexget. The easy explanation for what kind of script this is the following:

You specify where to download from, what to download, and where to download it to.

The long explanation all tough, is so much more interesting!

Here is a config file I have compiled together:

global:
  statistics:
   file: /path/to/your/wwwroot

  email:
    from: flexget@myserver.com
    to: your@mailaddress.com
    smtp_host: mail.mailaddress.com
    smtp_port: 25
    smtp_login: true
    smtp_username: your@mailaddress.com
    smtp_password: yourpassword123

feeds:
  tv-shows:
    rss: http://www.website.com/rssfeed.php
    series:
      - True Blood:
          timeframe:
            hours: 6
            enough: 720p
      - Eureka:
          timeframe:
            hours: 12
            enough: 720p
      - Family Guy
      - Dirty Jobs

    download: /path/to/torrent/watchdir

  movies:
    rss: http://www.website.com/rssfeed.php
    limit_new: 3
    imdb:
      min_score: 6.2
      min_votes: 6000
      min_year: 1997
    download: /path/to/torrent/watchdir

  flexget:
    interval: 3 days
    html: http://download.flexget.com/0.9/
    regexp:
      accept:
        - flexget.*zip
    download: /root/fgreleases

  diggnation:
    interval: 3 days
    rss: http://revision3.com/diggnation/feed/MP4-hd30
    limit_new: 1
    regexp:
      accept:
        - diggnation*.mp4
    exec: wget -b -P /path/to/podcast/directory %(url)s

And here is an explanation on what each part does:

First part:

global:
  statistics:
   file: /path/to/your/wwwroot

Basically, this part sets all the global settings of the entire config file. in this section I’ve only set up that statistics for all downloads should be parsed to an index file on my box. Here you will see what kind of sites that generate the most results.

Second part:

  email:
    from: flexget@myserver.com
    to: your@mailaddress.com
    smtp_host: mail.mailaddress.com
    smtp_port: 25
    smtp_login: true
    smtp_username: your@mailaddress.com
    smtp_password: yourpassword123

This part is very cool. It’s for setting up so you get a mail as soon as a new show/movie/whatever is downloaded. Combine this with an iPhone and a push mail service, and you got yourself an instant notification as soon as your favorite show has started downloading. Also, If you combine this with the Deluge plugin in Flexget, you can set up Deluge to mail you as soon as the download has finished!

Third part:

feeds:
  tv-shows:
    rss: http://www.website.com/rssfeed.php
    series:
      - True Blood:
          timeframe:
            hours: 6
            enough: 720p
      - Eureka:
          timeframe:
            hours: 12
            enough: 720p
      - Family Guy
      - Dirty Jobs
    download: /path/to/torrent/watchdir

Now for the things that really matter. The downloads. Here I have specified the following values:

feeds: – This indicates that the following list will consist of rss feeds

tv-shows: – This just tells flexget that the feed we are about to parse will consist of tv-shows. It will then make it easier for flexget to understand how to parse the names, focus on season and episode numbers and so on.

rss: – Here we just specify the rss feed for a place to get the latest tv-shows.

series: – This part is the fun part. Here you just write the name of the show you want to get. There are no real rules needed to specify, no regexp to focus on, just write the name, that’s it. Just remember to write it as it’s shown in the feed, otherwise flexget will get confused.

timeframe: – Here we want to specifiy some extra settings. The timeframe value can make use of the settings “hours” and “enough”. This makes it so that IF the 720p version of a release has not been displayed within 6 hours, the SD (Standard definition) version should be downloaded.

download: Here is where the .torrent file will get downloaded. After this, the torrent client (in my case transmission) will take over and start downloading.

Fourth part:

  movies:
    rss: http://www.website.com/rssfeed.php
    limit_new: 3
    imdb:
      min_score: 6.2
      min_votes: 6000
      min_year: 1997
    download: /path/to/torrent/watchdir

This second part is for downloading the latest HD movie releases, which in turn gets checked through IMDB to check the rating (I’ll explain this later).

movies: – This just tells flexget that we are now dealing with movies, not tv-shows.

rss: – Same as above, the rss feed for a site where you are to download from.

limit_new: 1 – I had to add this in order to not kill of my box completely. Basically it only checks one link each time the cron job is run (which is once every hour).

imdb: – Here we tell flexget that the following will be values used to check towards imdb.

min_score: 6.2 – We don’t want crap movies in our archives, so here we tell flexget to only download movies with a rating ABOVE 6.2 on IMDB.

min_votes: 6000 – We also don’t want the script to download movies where there are only 100 votes (which is mostly the actors and cast of the movie) and have received a high initial rating.

download: – Same as above, download path is to the watch-dir for your torrent client.

The third part:

  flexget:
    interval: 3 days
    html: http://download.flexget.com/0.9/
    regexp:
      accept:
        - flexget.*zip
    download: /root/fgreleases

We of course want to keep up with the latest updates of the script. There might be changes to IMDB that require the script to be updated, or new features which we can take use of. That’s where this part comes in.

flexget: – Loads the flexget module, which is made specifically for downloading latest updates of flexget.

interval: 3 days – Check every 3 days for new updates.

html: – Seeing as there is no rss feed for releases, we have to rely on html parsing. That’s where this module comes in.

patterns: – Here we have to use regexp in order to dive through the html code, and finding the file we need.

download: – Aaand where to download the release. Here we just dump it in a folder on our home path.

The last part:

  diggnation:
    interval: 3 days
    rss: http://revision3.com/diggnation/feed/MP4-hd30
    limit_new: 1
    regexp:
      accept:
        - diggnation*.mp4
    exec: wget -b -P /path/to/podcast/directory %(url)s

I watch a lot of Diggnation, so naturally it would be cool to have the latest episodes waiting for me on my box when they are available. This part simply uses more or less the same functions as the flexget section, except it also specifies that it should only download the newest link found. I have also set it to use wget to download it, and not flexgets own get function, as 1. It takes up a lot of load, and 2. The download can last for quite some time, which in turn can make the script start running in several instances.

So that’s it! I really love this script and how versatile it is. If you wish to read more about using flexget and how to modify it to your needs:

Anyway, I’ve been stumbling a bit this morning and came across some fun stuff:

A totally psychedelic remix of the Alice In Wonderland song:

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAwR6w2TgxY

I really think this video captures how radically insane this movie, not to mention the original story is, and after watching it about 3 or 4 times, my brain was turned into a slightly gooey substance.

Also, turtles are fun….

But I should be going to work now, so…

Yeah!

It’s finally Christmas! (well technically it’s past Christmas here in Norway. You Brits or Americans might celebrate on the morning of the 25th, but not us, oh no. We’re impatient :p).
So after being at friends all day yesterday (the 23rd that is), eating pizza, snacks, having sodas, watching movies and playing WII, I was in bed at around 4 after watching the last episode of Heroes (OMGLOLFFS! Damn cliffhangers and their cliffhangerness! I want season 3 NOW!…) and reading a chapter in my book.

Today I got up at around one, had a good long shower and fixed myself up for the evening to come. Mom had made rice porridge which is custom in our family and of course the almond was in place in a random bowl of porridge (well it was really a peanut, seeing as mom didn’t have any almonds, but who’s picky). And of course, after just two bites, it was mine! All mine :D And the reward, a marzipan pig and a scratch ticket. Sadly I didn’t win, but it was fun non the less.
After watching the obligatory Christmas movies, like the Disney Christmas, Tante Pose and of course the butler and the countess which is also a tradition to watch here in Norway., my grandfather shows up and it’s time for dinner.
As is tradition in our family, we have rib for Christmas, and rice pudding. However this year the rib wasn’t particularly good. It was way too much fat on it and was just sickening if you ate too much. The meaty parts were ok though, but I’d really wish it had been a bit better. Still, I ate until I couldn’t eat any more, so I guess it wasn’t that bad :p

After relaxing a bit, trying to get the rib to settle, it was of course time for the coffee and cakes. Man we eat allot on Christmas…..Anyway, after a few sips, my brother can’t stop nagging about opening presents, so my mom gives the go. He runs for the presents and starts throwing them to everyone as fast as possible.

I got quite allot of stuff actually, especially seeing as my age kind of makes people stop buying presents for me. Being old sucks…

Anyway, this is what I got for Christmas:
- 3000kr.
- A warm wool sweater.
- wool underwear.
- 007 – On her majesty’s secret service.
- A book called “Drageløperen” or “The Kite runner” in English.
- A couple of dvds my brother made with various shows on them.
- And the best present of the year in my opinion:

A very snazzy teapot with glasses :D

I also got a tea called “Høstflørt” (Fall flirt) with them. I’m sure Alina will love them as well, as she’s just as much a tea drinker as I am.

Now I’d just like to post a few pictures I’ve taken in order to properly give that Christmas feel.

This is our Christmas tree, for being the first time ever where I wasn’t the one cordinating the decorations on the Christmas tree, I think it turned out pretty good.

This is a bowl of nuts, go figure :p

And last, but not least, a crackling fire (all tough taken with a very slow shutter speed, so it looks kind of fancy and purple-like)

Tomorrow is the big drinking day here in Skien, so I’m going over to a friends house with around 13-14 people and will no doubt drink until I can’t see straight, then of course head out on town and drink some more. I am however not looking forward to walking home afterwards, but I’ll probably manage.
Hopefully I’ll have enough to drink on though, I’m getting some beers from my stepdad, but that’s it really. I’ll probably mooch a bit of my friends though, some vodka or something, so there will no doubt be enough intoxication ;)

Well, it’s due time for some sleeping now. Even though it’s just as late as it was yesterday. Man I sure hope I get my sleeping patterns adjusted by the time I’m heading back to Trondheim, otherwise I’ll have a hard time getting to work.

Good night, and Merry Christmas to you all!

First of all, as stated previously, I’m finally back online again! So, I went to check out how the traffic on my site has been lately….and my jaw drops.

Oct 2007 Total traffic 20.51 GB
Nov 2007 Total traffic 22.75 GB

How the HELL did I manage to generate that amount of traffic?! Well, after some investigation I stumble upon this line

/dump/Akon%20-%20Dont%20Matter.mp3 – Total amount of hits: 5451

Yeah, a song I uploaded to my server for a friend of mine had been registered by the Google Bot and the masses flowed through the gates. Still, my host has a 40gb traffic limit, so I’m still well within the limits of monthly traffic. Still, it could have gone a hell of allot worse.

I’ve cleaned up allot of old crap on my server now, so hopefully I won’t have that problem again :p

So what’s been going on lately you might wonder? (or don’t). Not that much really. I’ve been working quite allot lately, mostly just going to work at day, and heading home in the evenings to relax. I’ve been spending a bit too much money on movies as always, but at the same time there’s nothing better then to extend ones movie collection a bit ;)

Oh and I’ve also gotten to know two people at work better these past weeks.I’ve been sitting in the same room with Espen and Torkil and we’ve been talking allot of trash, so we’ve really got to know each other well. Which is nice, I always like getting to know new people. Turns out they both play in bands, and Espen is the bass player for a band called Tripod which really play some funky grunge type music. I was supposed to be at a concert they were having the other day at Storås Utested, but I didn’t have the money for it, and Alina is still only 19 so we wouldn’t have gotten in anyway.

Btw,Just the other day, after paycheck me and Espen even went to Peppes pizza during lunch and had a pizza buffet, so we ate like crazy people before we went back to work too stuffed to do anything but sit and complain. Great fun :p

I saw an absolutely awesome movie the other day by the way, called La Strada by Fredrico Felini. And i must say, it’s by far one of the best movies I’ve seen. The actors were incredible and the emotions Gelsomina in the movie goes trough is really portrayed in an incredibly lifelike manner. A must see for anyone interested in old classics. I also stumbled over it the other day on Platekompaniet and of course I had to buy it.

All the new movies added to my movie collection has been updated to My videoDB in case you’re interested in checking it out.

Today it’s Saturday, so of course I’m relaxing as much as possible. Alina went to Sweden for a short trip with a couple of friends a couple of hours ago, and won’t be back for at least 2-3 or more hours, so I’ll probably spend it here in front of the computer just watching series and relaxing. After we got our connection back up, downloading in 420kb/s really gets allot of stuff down fast :D So I’m constantly queuing up stuff to download. Sooner or later my HD will fill up though, but until then, I’ll drain this connection dry!

We also might be heading for a party with some school friends of Alina later today, seeing as they’re having a pre-exam party, but it kind of depends on how we both feel I guess.

Yesterday the replacement router shows up, and we could all feel the excitement, “finally we will be able to use the Internet again!”, but alas no… I unpack the router, an guess what? The morons had actually managed to ship it with the wrong power adapter. It simply didn’t fit! (and had the wrong voltage). So we call them again, complain a bit, and get told that they will ship it asap, which I feel, from own experience working as a support person, means that it will be sent by regular mail, and probably show up sometime next week.
Oh the joy, another week without Internet passes. I’m starting to forget how it looks like..

Anyway, I’ve got my handy little smartphone, so keeping the blog updated is not that much of a problem ;)

Yesterday and today has been really lazy. I’ve been taken off work the past couple of days due to a company putting their projects with us on hold. Yesterday me and Alina spent a day together wandering aimlessly about town, visited the library, Alina bought some dvds and then just went back home, made pizza and saw Pirates of the Caribbean 3. I didn’t really like it that much, but it was easy entertainment.

Today I’ve spent most of the day rearranging my photos and doing some simple house chores. When Alina is back from school around 6, we’ll try to find something to do. Either invite some people over, or try to meet up with someone in town. Depends om what people are up to.

In the meantime I’ll be waiting for our third router and to some dishes. God I hope we get Internet soon :s

So I´ve taken a 5min to kick back and get some blogging done at work. We´ve got breaks of 5 min every hour, including the 30 min lunch break, so having a pause now and then is really nice.

This weekend was nice, on Saturday i WAS planning on going out to the Muse vorspiel on Mikroen, but “sadly” I ended up at home instead doing more or less nothing. Watched Shrek the third, but was pretty bored with it. It was ok, but nothing more.

On Sunday I spent most of the morning in bed, the afternoon i went to pick up Alina on the hospital, but turns out she had gone to my place….so it was kind of a wasted trip. All tough i DID get the 300 movie on platekompaniet on my way back, so it wasn´t all bad :p

Today I was late for work. Got a call from my supervisor around 8:45 asking why I wasn´t at work. I blurted out something about being there as soon as possible, and managed to throw myself into the shower and run off. Got here a little late, but no harm done. Plans for the rest of this day is still vague, but i reckon it will be raiding Bunnpris and helping Alina pack up her stuff.

I must say I was amazed as to how fun it looked when the sun was rising and my room became brighter and brighter, not to mention seeing myself running around like a madman or just sitting in front of my computer looking all spastic.

I will no doubt make more of these as time goes by. I also have some plans with timelapse and the upcoming alphabet party the 27 of October ;)

Gah! My back is hurting…..And I do believe my chair is to blame. Thing is, the floor here is so slanted, that my back subconsciously is working constantly to keep the chair from rolling, and so it hurts after sitting here for several hours straight. Either i have to rearrange my room somehow, or I need to sit less in front of the computer…. I wonder which it will be :p

Anyway, new post, need something to write about. As you might have noticed I’ve been playing around with my webcam allot, but I’ve also done some cool stuff with my GNU/Linux setup. I’ve enabled something called kexec in the kernel. What it does is that it makes rebooting 10 times faster, by simply booting the kernel over again, instead of the entire computer. So you don’t have to go trough the bios bootup, or the grub menu (if you use one like I do, I have several kernels), so by cutting away all that dead time, a reboot takes less time. Now all I need to do is figure out why my display crashes when i run in framebuffer mode in console and reboot with kexec….I’m guessing it has something to do with the fact that the kexec code in the kernel is marked EXPERIMENTAL :]

I’ve also tried lately to fix up my system a bit, clean out old files and such, but It’s not easy seeing as I have allot of application I just install to test, then forget to uninstall them, which leaves tons of crap files lying around. And the fact that when I first set up this system, and only gave the / mount 6.5gb of space doesn’t help…
If anyone have any good hints or tips to cleaning up a Gentoo system, let me know. I’ve so far done revdep-rebuild, cleaned up several temp files and deleted allot of unnecessary doc files.

So, plans for the day…..meh, I’m not sure to be honest. I talked with Silje yesterday about meeting up at a café later on today, but when I was heading to bed last night (around 4 am..) she was up because she couldn’t sleep. She was going to send me a text though, to let me know if she was up for it, so we’ll see :)
I also had a message from Inger-Lise this morning asking if I had any plans, but she was offline when i tried to talk to her so I’m not sure what it was about.
Hopefully I’ll find something to do tonight, sitting alone at home again is kind of a drag. Yesterday was ok, even though I kind of said I would go to Mikroen, I decided I much rather wanted to stay home and play around with my webcam. Today though, I’m not that keen on staying at home doing squat.

Oh, and I watched Fantastic 4: Rise of the silver surfer last night, man that’s a crap cheesy horrible flick….I do NOT recommend it. Only fun moments in it was 1: When Stan Lee (creator of Spiderman, Fantastic 4 etc.) wasn’t allowed into Storm and Mr.Fantastics wedding. I was amused by that :p and 2: When the silver surfer confessed his true reason for being there.

Yes, for all you nay sayers, I got a job! Okay so it’s not something I will do for the rest of my life, but it will give me an income and help pay the rent, plus it will stop me from feeling like lazy slob. So you might be wondering what this job is all about, right? Well, I’m starting as an phone interviewer at Norstat. I’ll be calling random people, interviewing them about various topics. It sure beats the hell out of telemarketing anyway. I was offered a job at Neras direkte as well, but i just can’t stand phone-salesmen, so calling just to interview people really feels much better in a way.
The pay is not exactly something to jump around for, 90,- an hour, increases by 5kr every 200 hours and pays an extra 20kr an hour on Saturday evenings and an extra 30kr an hour on Sundays, so I’ll probably be taking on a few extra shifts i reckon. All tough, working 9 – 4 Monday to Friday will pay more then enough for rent and everything else i need, i still wouldn’t mind saving up a little extra for traveling places with Alina or having some backup when I’m going back into studying. Yes, I’m considering finishing my videregående and get a generell studiekompetanse as soon as possible, so on Tuesday I’m meeting up with a guidance counselor at Sonans to discuss what i need to finish my school.

Things are really starting to look up for me, and i must say, it’s all thanks to Alina. She helped me realize i need some ambitions and goals in life, and seeing as i really want to be with her, and have a good life, i figured it was about time i started doing something.

So tomorrow is my first day, I’m starting at 12′o clock with the meeting, going trough an basic course on how the interviewing works and so forth, then i begin work at 4 and work for as long as i want, until 9′o clock in the evening. I’m feeling a bit nervous, seeing as I haven’t worked for about a year, but I’m sure it will pass as soon as I’ve settled in and worked for a couple of days. I will however, during my work there, apply for jobs elsewhere in order to find something a bit more suiting with a better pay.

Notes to self:
- Call or text Neras direkte and tell them I’m not interested in working at their place after all.
- Deliver an application for welfare to NAV so i can get some money to pay rent and bills until i get my pay from Norstat.
- Place some money on my account so i can pay my phone bill from One-Call asap.

Oh, and just so i don’t forget. I had a great time yesterday at the Film’n'koz we had here. Silje, Andreas and Elin showed up, and we watched Black snake moan (2006). I really enjoyed it and to me it was really a movie unlike any other. It had some really good symbolism and was built up in such a way that made you really feel the characters pain, sorrow and happiness.
I really enjoyed our little get-together last night, so i really hope we can do it again sometime :)
