Breaks from blogging

The thing about blogging. Is that you have to be in the mood for it. Now sometimes I’m really in the mood for just sitting down, taking my time and writing a post about what’s been going on lately in my life, but I haven’t felt like that for a long time now. I think mostly it’s because of all the changes in my life. Changes makes you stressed, weary, worried and insecure. So getting the time to sit down and write something, becomes very hard to do. That’s why I’ve taken as long a break from blogging as I have, but now, I’m back and feel it’s about time I started writing some again.

As some might know by now, me and Alina have moved to an new apartment. It’s about 28square meters (all tough the ad said 38, but It’s big enough for us either way), the rent is at a 6000kr a month + electricity and Internet, and it’s pretty close to town (about 10minute walk). First of all, I’d just like to thank the following people for helping out the Wednesday previous week: Sonja, Stian, Inger-Lise, Helen and Alinas parents. You guys were great and I’m really happy that you could all make it. It would have been hell without you.

Now that we’re a bit more settled, I figured I was calmed enough to actually sit down and write something. It’s still a bit messy here. Things needs to be moved into the attic, there’s still garbage that needs to be taken out, but most of the stuff has now been set up. It still looks a bit “thin” in the living room though, seeing as we still don’t have a couch, but hopefully we’ll get that fixed shortly.
There’s still allot of stuff here that needs to get fixed by the landlord though. The sink is slightly cracked and the pipes are leaking, the washing machine is leaking, the sink in the kitchen is leaking, but thankfully not enough to make it a problem. Hopefully he’ll be able to check it out and fix it soon.

Economy wise, moving has been quite the black hole though. We’ve bought quite allot of stuff after we moved in, and seeing as I’m poor as always, Alina has been loaning me the money so we can buy stuff together. Now I owe her quite allot of money, and we’re going to England… No doubt my next paycheck will also be dried out pretty quick. Still, I’ll manage though, and Alina is so kind and gives me the time I need to pay her back.

And for those that didn’t know, yeah we’re going to London this easter! I’m so looking forward to it. We’ll stay at a hostel in town, and be hardcore tourists, seeing the sites, eating the food and just having a great time over there. Hopefully Ste and Kelly will come down from Birmingham and spend the day with us as well. We’ll probably be staying there for about 1 and 1/2 week before we head back, so we’ll have plenty of time to see stuff. I’ll try to keep the blog updated as a sort of travel blog if anyone is interested. Also, we’ll be in Skien for a couple of days as well before we head to London, so if any of the ol’ Skien gang is present, please let me know and we’ll hang :p

Computer wise haven’t been much happening to be honest. I’m dying to get a server up and running, but there’s no point until we got ourself a Internet connection. For now we’re using our dumb neighbors unsecured WLAN net, but we don’t know how long it will last until he figures out there’s about 20 or 30 people on his router at all times, so better wait for our own before setting up anything. I’ve done some scripting though, and done quite allot of changes to the Ninja Monkeys forum. Now it’s got quite allot of hacks and tweaks to make it look pimp. I love setting up stuff like that.

Well, best be off now I guess. I’m hungry as hell, and I really should send a text to Alina and check how her medical examination went. I should also tidy up a bit here and get a shower…

Heading home soon

So tomorrow at around 10 I’m heading back towards Skien yet again. This time for a far more joyful occasion then previously. The last couple of days have been rather good to be honest. After I had my tooth extracted on Tuesday, I’ve more or less just been relaxing all week, seeing as there hasn’t been any work for me. I’ve helped Alina get some stuff from IKEA and set it up at her new place, but mostly I’ve been sitting in front of the computer doing more or less nothing, while Alina has been studying frantically towards each exam she’s had.

Today I’ll probably try to do at least something (seeing as I have to pack my clothes etc. :p). I’m heading towards town soon to meet up with Alina at a café. She’s just finished her last exam of the year, the math exam. And is pretty exhausted from what I understand. Not only did she get about 4-5 hours sleep last night, but she also had to cram 19 examples and math formulas into one piece of paper. It seems like the whole thing went rather good though, so I’ve no doubt she’ll pass :)

Made a few changes to the page as you might have noticed as well. Removed the silly MSN and Skype status icons, seeing as they just made it look all cluttered, and they also pulled down the load time on the page quite allot. I did however add a widget which reads the latest updates on my videoDB, so you can see the latest 5 movies I’ve bought and added to my database.

Anyway, I should be off. I’ll probably (no doubt) be blogging when I’m on the train, and also when I arrive in Skien. Just to keep anyone that might be interested updated. Ciao!

New site goes live!

To be honest, i had been working on this page for the last 3-4 days or so, and seeing as I’ve got some hours to spend this Sunday, i decided I’d might as well just put out out there right away, seeing as i felt it was more or less finished. So here you go! Leave me a vote on the poll on your right side and tell me what you think. You can also specify your own vote if none of the ones I’ve set fits your impression of the site =)

New design in the works

So it’s that time of the year again (which is not really a set date, it just happens allot during a year…), it’s time to change design on the site. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some more content on the main page this time, so I don’t have to have a allot of sub sites for content such as links, about and so forth. This time I’ll also have a more sleek design. Currently I’m adding web badges to the site and trying to figure out if i want a header image or not. Most of the page itself is more or less completed, so there is a slight chance it will be added during the coming week. Keep visiting for updates :)

Considering redesign

hm, I can’t help it, but I’m already starting to get tired of the design my page currently have… It’s stupid I know, because it’s not that long ago since I redesigned it. However, I’ve stumbled upon some really awesome designs I’d much rather use, and with them i can add some extra stuff, like polls, gallery slide show and extra stuff I’d might want to add on the front page, which i can’t with the design I’m currently using.

So, I’ve settled with a few designs that I’d like some feedback on:

My adaptations of one of these designs will of course go trough quite a change in looks, seeing as there will be changes in various images, placement of info and so forth.

If you don’t like any of these suggestions, and would much rather see something totally different, please add a comment and recommend a design from this site:

Movie database

Well i got bored the other day, and decided I’d might as well set up a database with all the movies i have. So i went trough my usual sources to see if i could find some system that would suit my needs. Previously I’ve been using something called aviman, but it hasn’t been updated for some time, and it doesn’t use SQL databases, so it’s kind of slow. And seeing as I’ve got quite a few movies, it wouldn’t do as good as it used to.
After looking around some more i found something called videoDB, which worked out pretty well. It’s discontinued, but there are several people still developing on it, so it works as it should.

The webdesign continues, and suddenly, honey everywhere!

And the page updates continues. I’ve now made the templates for all the other pages, added a working guest book and fixed up the footer a bit. As for the archive, I’m not quite sure how I’ll manage to get it to work. Problem is that the template needs certain variables to be output. The index file is being output ok, but i can’t output more then one file with blogger variables, so having a second page with blogger variables won’t work. I’ll see what i can manage to fix though, i might be able to get the archive data from the rss feeder or something.

In other news, Sonja just manage to explode a bottle of honey all over the kitchen. It had started to ferment and when she was shaking it, pressure raised and it simply exploded, so we had to wash the entire kitchen, floor to ceiling to get rid of all the honey. Was pretty fun ^^

I should really head out into the nice weather now, tired if sitting in when it’s sunny. Maybe I’ll try to do some photography, I’ve always enjoyed that.

New design

Well, as you might notice when reading this post, is that there’s a new design up. I found it over at OSWD as i do with all the designs on pages i make. Being a person with total lack of imagination and creativity, i use open source designs instead.

Next up will probably be fixing up the sub pages, logo, cleaning up the html, including the counter and so on. Don’t know if I’ll bother doing it tonight though, but maybe tomorrow.

Now I’m heading for bed to read Lucifer book 6! \o/
